Simple explanation
When you move into a home in Germany, address registration is one of the first administrative steps. The registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung) is often useful later for banks, authorities and other administrative matters.
Keep your passport or identity document, rental or housing documents and later registration papers together. If you move again, check the procedure and deadline that applies at your local registration office.
